We had our week-end free and popped down to St. George to visit with Seth's family who moved there just 5 days earlier. We had fun visiting Zion's NP, hiking, and also went with them to their new ward on their first day!
The second week was training specific for Humanitarian Missionaries. We traveled up to SLC to tour Welfare Square. We were treated to lunch in the Joseph Smith Memorial 10th floor restaurant. (The view of the temple from the 10th floor is quite impressive) It was great hands-on training, especially noteworthy was finally getting a comprehensive list of the Big 13 organizations with whom we will be working with: Real Medicine Foundation, International Medical Corp, Unicef (children fund), Catholic Relief (CRS), ADRA (7th Day Adventists), United Nations Humanitarian Charitable Relief (UNHCR), Save the Children, Syrian American Medical Society, CARE, World Food Programme (WFP), International Rescue Committee (IRC), Convoy of Hope (Evangelical), American Red Cross. Our organization of course is LDS Charities.
Next post will be from Italy!!! We fly out on Thursday, March 2 and arrive on Friday March 3. We are excited to serve in such a worthy cause. |
